Music Teacher (Full Time)

 

St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, Houston (SSESH) seeks a Music Teacher to join our teaching faculty. The Music Teacher plays a key role in our co-curricular program. Specifically, the Music Teacher designs and implements music lessons for all students with developmentally appropriate outcome goals, and is part of the leadership team to put on numerous performances during the school year. These include but are not limited to, a holiday performance, grade-level performances, and the showcase performance during SouthXSt. Stephen’s (our spring, week-long celebration of the arts). 

 

The position begins on August 1, 2024.

 

Requirements

  • All persons employed at SSESH must be over the age of 18.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music, Performing Arts, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching music to early childhood, elementary, and/or middle school levels.
  • Strong foundation in a variety of musical mediums and techniques.
  • Ability to inspire students and foster creativity and critical thinking.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and a patient, nurturing approach.
  • Experience with integrating technology in music education is a plus.
  • Ability to manage confidential information, including communication with families and colleagues.
  • Experience with, appreciation for, or an interest in learning about Montessori education
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Completion of Safeguarding God’s Children Training (provided by SSESH).
  • A successful background check, including fingerprinting.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain first aid, automated external defibrillator (AED), and CPR certification.
  • The position may require extended periods of time at a desk or moving around the classroom.
  • The position may require you to lift objects up to around 20 pounds.
  • The position may require event support on the weekends and/or evenings.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of music courses to students of varying skill levels.
  • Develop and implement engaging, student-centered lesson plans that cater to a diverse range of musical interests and abilities.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate music into interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Organize and supervise music performances and school-wide musical events.
  • Mentor and guide students in developing their music portfolios.
  • Evaluate student work and communicate progress with the students and their families.
  • Assist with morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Head of School.
