SAFETY REMINDERS

Safety is the first key to delivering the Bulldog Experience. We ask for your help with keeping our students and staff safe. We have a number of policies and procedures in place primarily for safety purposes, such as the following.

Shoes

  • Flip-flops are not part of the dress code
  • Crocs should be worn with the heel strap on the back of the heel
  • Please wear athletic shoes for P.E.

Drop off and dismissal

  • Please stay in your car unless the teacher asks for your help.
  • Pull all the way up to the next space to allow as many cars as possible in the line.
  • Use the designated carpool line when staff is on duty assisting students. We assign staff members to stations to provide a safe and efficient process.

PARENT EDUCATION

St. Stephen’s Episcopal School – Houston embraces a continuum of education, where each developmental stage of the student is nurtured. Students ages 15 months through 8th grade are guided through the Montessori philosophy and pedagogy. Founded on Dr. Montessori’s Planes of Development, our multi-age levels are as follows.

  • Orientation: 15 months – 3 years
  • Primary: 3 years – Kindergarten
  • Lower Elementary: 1st – 3rd grade
  • Upper Elementary: 4th – 6th grade
  • Middle Years: 7th and 8th grade

St. Stephen’s Episcopal School is accredited by the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools and the American Montessori Society.

Montessori 101 on September 21 at 8:30 – 9:30 AM in the Nave

Nahla Nasser, Principal, explains all things Montessori – concepts, theory, pedagogy, history, rationales, and, most importantly, how the Montessori method can help your child succeed.

Montessori Exploration on September 23 at 8:30 – 11:30 AM starting in Pecore Hall

Join us for a journey of discovery as we explore the Montessori program at St. Stephen’s. Enter each classroom as an incoming student in Orientation through Middle Years and leave with a deeper understanding of the seamless progression of learning at St. Stephen’s. You will first scan each environment, exploring all the materials laid out. After this observation, you will work with various materials in the different subject areas. After completing the journey, we will meet to debrief and share reflections. Childcare is available for students currently enrolled at St. Stephen’s.

Come see our new Montessori Middle Years Program at CoHo (the Community House)!

Please RSVP by emailing jerickson@ssesh.org

INVITATIONS FROM THE CHURCH

Faithful Families @ St. Stephen’s

As a church, St. Stephen’s joins families as we support the young ones in our care as they come to know themselves, the mystery of God, and the world around them. There are two opportunities coming up to do this together.

  • Sept 24 @ 5:00 PM in Pecore Hall is Faith Lab
  • Oct. 4 @ 6:30 PM begins OWL: Parent & Caregiver Edition – a 10 week series

FAITH LAB is a child-centered and family-oriented gathering over a meal, prayer, and play. Each gathering explores a story or theme through interactive stations, including service and tools to continue exploring/practicing faith at home. Join us where spirit and church can be curious, messy, loud, and silly.  This month, we’re exploring the Image of God – from teacher, to healer, to artist, to parent, and perhaps even as a little girl who likes to giggle.

OUR WHOLE LIVES: PARENTS EDITION is a collaboration with St. Stephen’s and Palmer Episcopal Church that will offer a 10-session series of the Our Whole Lives sexuality and identity curriculum for parents. This resource provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information about a range of topics, including relationships, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality. We will also explore how spirituality and faith intersect with these areas. The series will be offered in a hybrid in-person at Palmer and online format, with childcare or reimbursement for childcare offered to in-person participants. You can even come early and join in the on-site potluck at 5:30 PM each week.

The material will focus on providing insight for parents of 4th-6th grade students, but is open to parents and caregivers with children of any age.

Wednesdays @ 6:30 PM, Palmer Episcopal/Online

10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/29, 12/6, 12/13
